The 6 AI Tools I Actually Use Every Day in 2026

I have tried hundreds of AI tools. These six survived a full year of daily use, and the reasons they survived say more than any leaderboard.

I keep a list of every AI tool I have tried seriously, and it passed three hundred entries this year. Out of all of them, exactly six are open on my machine right now. The churn rate is the real story of 2026: most tools are not bad, they are redundant, and redundancy dies in daily use.

The survivors share one property: they live where the work already happens. A chatbot, a coding assistant, a transcription tool, an image generator, a writing checker, and one automation hub. None of them are exciting in a demo. All of them are boring in the good way, the way a hammer is boring.

What did not survive is instructive. Three separate AI calendar tools, each promising scheduling intelligence, each adding a step instead of removing one. Two prompt managers, killed by the discovery that my prompts fit in one text file. An AI note app that wanted to be a second brain and became a second inbox instead.

The lesson I would give my January self: do not shop for tools, shop for frictions. Pick the most annoying recurring task in your week, find one tool that removes it, and give it thirty honest days. If you reach for it without thinking by day thirty, it stays. If you have to remember it exists, it was a toy.

Six tools, one bill I actually understand, and a rule I trust: the best AI tool of any year is the one you stop noticing you are using.

Put one of these tools on the leaderboard
