Nano Banana 2.1 Made Me Reconsider AI Image Editing
Fourteen reference images and clean text rendering shouldn't be a big deal. They quietly fixed the two things that made AI editing feel like a toy.
Google's Nano Banana 2.1 update added up to 14 reference images, better mask-based editing, and improved text rendering. None of that is a headline feature, and all of it is why I started using it for real edits instead of just generations.
The reference-images bump is the quiet winner. Feeding it a mood board and asking for 'same family, new pose' finally holds the look across a set, which is the thing that separates a toy from a tool for anyone doing more than one image.
Text rendering is the other. AI image text has been a joke; this version puts a readable label on a product shot without me fixing it in another app. Small, but it removes the step that made the whole thing feel amateur.
I'm not declaring it the best. I'm noticing I reach for it before the heavier generators now, because the edit loop is faster. The model that fits the workflow wins, not the one with the biggest demo.
