The Midjourney Discord Tax Is Real, and I Paid It

Midjourney still makes the most painterly images I've seen from a prompt, and I'm not giving that up. But the Discord tax is real: every generation lives in a chat, there's no native editor, and the UX fights you at every turn.

I hit this when I needed forty consistent assets for a small project. The quality was there; the workflow wasn't. I ended up bouncing finished images into Leonardo or Canva just to crop and place them.

People compare Midjourney to other image models like it's about the final frame. For me it's about the hundred steps around the frame — and that's where it lags.

If you're a hobbyist chasing one perfect image, none of this matters. If you're producing at volume, the tool that respects your time beats the tool with the prettiest output. I learned that the expensive way.

I'm not leaving Midjourney. I'm just honest about what it costs me in friction, and I price that into which jobs I send it.
