Why I Won't Let an Agent Spend My Money Yet
Agent checkout is here, and Amazon already opted out. Until the refund path is as easy as the buy button, the human stays on the tap.
With Shopify's WebMCP and Meta's Muse, agents can now complete purchases. It's convenient and I want it, and I'm not turning it on for my accounts yet, because the part that's missing is the undo.
A bad agent purchase is worse than a bad human one. A person notices the wrong size before checkout; an agent optimizes for done. And when Amazon asked off Muse's list citing automated-shopping restrictions, it confirmed the liability question isn't solved.
Sierra's Personal Agent Protocol is the right shape: agents identify themselves and get customer-approved access. But 'approved access' has to mean 'easy to revoke and refund,' and that plumbing is younger than the buying demo.
Let the agent build the cart and show me the total. The final tap is mine until returning the thing is as frictionless as buying it. Convenience isn't worth a silent bad charge.
