Descript Cuts My Audio. Luma Animates My Photos. I Bought Both and Regretted Nothing.

Descript changed how I edit podcasts: I delete the 'um' by deleting the word in the transcript, not by scrubbing waveforms. For a weekly show that alone saved me an hour per episode, and the filler-word removal is shockingly good once you review it.

Luma AI is the tool I reach for when I have a single product photo and need it to feel alive: a slow camera move, a subtle parallax, a 3-second loop for a social ad. It's not 'video editing,' it's 'making a still breathe,' and that niche is exactly what my posts needed.

They don't touch. Descript finishes the talking piece; Luma makes the hero asset that opens it. The only overlap is export formats, and both play nice with the editor I final in.

Verdict: Descript if you publish spoken content, Luma if you publish visual content. If your work is both, they're not redundant, they're sequential.
