About Perplexity: Perplexity is a search engine that answers instead of listing links. it shows its sources inline, so you can check the claim before you quote it. Perplexity gave me ten sources with one query; two of them were tangentially related but I caught it.

About Elicit: Elicit is a research tool that reads papers so you don't have to. it pulls claims and citations out of a pile of PDFs in minutes. Elicit pulled the actual methods out of six PDFs, and I could click through to the line that mattered.

it sometimes conflates two sources and states a blend as fact. it confidently summarizes studies it only skimmed, so you still verify the source. Neither is magic, and the gap between the demo and your actual workflow is where most of these comparisons fall apart.

Perplexity for a quick, sourced overview; Elicit when the claim has to hold up in a citation. Pick Perplexity when you need a map of a topic in five minutes. Pick Elicit when you're writing something where a wrong reference costs you.
