My rule now: if a stat matters, I ask Perplexity for it and then open at least one of the sources it cites. The model is good, but good is not verified, and the web has confident wrong numbers.
Where it shines is the follow-up. Who originally published this and is this from 2023 or this year catch the stale figure that would have quietly dated my work. The dating question alone is worth the tool.
It will not tell you when a source is biased, only that one exists. So I read the top result, not just the summary. Verification is still a human job; Perplexity just makes it faster to start.
