AI Won't Take Your Job, and the Reason Is Boring

Every cycle brings the headline that this model finally takes your job. It doesn't, because most jobs are mostly coordination, not the part AI is good at.

Every cycle brings the headline that this model finally takes your job. It doesn't, and the reason is boring: most jobs are mostly coordination, not the part AI is good at.

I watched a 'fully automated' workflow still need a human to catch the one thing it got wrong, the invoice with the transposed digit, the client whose name it misspelled. The AI did the 90%, the human owned the 10% that mattered.

The roles that changed are the ones with a thin human layer, transcription, first drafts, summarization. Those got faster, not deleted. The person who did only the thin layer is in trouble; the person who did the rest is fine.

Treat AI as a faster pair of hands, not a replacement, and you'll use it well. The job-that-ends story sells newsletters; the job-that-changes story is what's actually happening, quietly, this quarter.
