I Benchmarked Free vs Paid Chatbots and the Gap Is Smaller Than Ads Say
The paid tier is often worth it. But not for the reasons the upgrade screen claims.
I ran the same ten tasks on free and Plus tiers of two chatbots. On simple questions, free was indistinguishable. On a 30-page document and a long coding session, paid pulled ahead - mostly through higher limits, not smarter answers.
So the real reason to pay is throughput, not intelligence. If your work fits in the free window, you're donating money.
Where paid genuinely helped: not losing context mid-task, and not hitting a wall at 4pm. That's a workflow tax, not a capability tax.
Pay for the ceiling you actually hit, not the one the marketing describes.
