I Keep Two Chatbots Open, and That's the Point

Purists pick one model and defend it. I keep two open, a careful one for writing I care about and a fast one for everything else.

Purists pick one model and defend it. I keep two open, a careful one for writing I care about and a fast one for everything else, and the friction of switching is less than the cost of using the wrong tool.

This isn't disloyalty; it's routing. The careful model catches the weak spot in a long brief; the fast one drafts the email I'll rewrite anyway. Using one for both means one job is done badly.

The habit formed after a month of forcing everything through a single default and watching the important work suffer for the sake of consistency. The consistency was mine, not the model's, and it was costing me.

If you do knowledge work, try two and assign them roles. The 'best' model is the one whose weakness isn't fatal for the specific task, and that changes hourly.

Picking a side is a marketing win for the lab, not a productivity win for you. Use two, use three, use the one that fits the next step.
