Your "Helpful Assistant" Is Also a Data Problem You Haven't Solved

Every AI feature is a new place your data lives. Most companies found that out after they shipped it.

Adding an AI assistant to your product feels like a feature. Operationally it is a new datacenter you did not plan for, full of your users' most sensitive conversations.

I have watched three teams discover, after launch, that the assistant logs were sitting in a place the security team could not see. None of them meant to. All of them shipped anyway.

The hard part is not the model. It is the governance: where the data goes, how long it stays, who can read it, what happens when a regulator asks. Most teams figure this out under pressure.

If you are building with AI, write the data flow before you write the prompt. The feature is easy. The audit is the job.

Users will forgive a clumsy assistant. They will not forgive you losing the things they told it in confidence. Trust is the only asset that does not regenerate.
