What OpenAI Actually Shipped at DevDay 2026 (and What's Just Hype)

Dots, GPT-6.1 Sol, ChatGPT Space, MCP Events, a Decisions API. Some of it is a real step change. Some is a rebrand of things you already had.

DevDay 2026 was a long list: more than 20 items by some counts. The ones that matter for builders are Dots and the cheaper model tier, not the conference-energy slogans.

Dots are always-on agents that keep working between your conversations, run on their own cloud computer, and connect to 4,000-plus apps through plugins. This is the closest any mainstream product has come to 'hire an assistant who never clocks out,' and the autonomy settings are the part to watch. Pro and Business Premium get it first; Enterprise is off by default. That default matters more than the feature.

GPT-6.1 Sol is the quieter win. It claims near-GPT-6 Astra performance at about a fifth of the token bill, at $2 per million input and $10 per million output, with a 1.05-million-token context and an Ultrafast tier pushing 300 tokens a second. For anyone running agents at volume, that pricing curve is the story, not the demo.

The rest is plumbing that will quietly matter. MCP Events lets ChatGPT subscribe to live updates from any MCP server with webhook delivery and callback verification, which turns it from a chat box into an event-driven worker. The Decisions API returns a structured choice instead of text in roughly 150 milliseconds, an 'answer the question, don't write the essay' endpoint that agent builders have wanted.

What's hype: the 'ChatGPT Space' shared workspace is a nicer framing of things teams already bolt together with docs and group chats. Useful, not revolutionary. Judge DevDay by the autonomy defaults and the price per task, not the keynote.
