Your Prompt Library Is Dead Weight

I kept a folder of 'perfect prompts' and never reused one. The prompt that worked last month is a relic the moment the model changed, and models change constantly now.

I kept a folder of 'perfect prompts' and never reused a single one. The prompt that worked last month is a relic the moment the model changed, and models change constantly now.

The value wasn't the text, it was the idea, the instruction to preserve uncertainty, the reminder to show your work. Those transfer; the exact wording rots as the model gets smarter at inferring.

A prompt library is dead weight when it's treated as scripture. It's useful when it's a list of principles you rephrase each time. I threw out the files and kept the three rules.

Stop collecting prompts like stamps. Collect the habits, the 'what to tell the model' that survives updates, and write fresh each task. The library that ages well is the one in your head.
