The honest comparison
Two different jobs kept landing on my desk: editing the channel's main episodes, and turning blog posts into videos for the second channel. I gave Descript the first and Pictory the second, then swapped them for a week out of stubbornness. Here's what survived.
For real footage, Descript is untouchable. Cut a sentence from the transcript, the video cuts with it. My editor quit mid-month and I published on schedule without noticing, which is the strongest endorsement I can give any software.
Pictory on the same footage felt like handing a scalpel to a conveyor belt. It found cuts, sure, but the sensibility was wrong in ways that took longer to fix than editing manually.
