The honest comparison

I paid for Descript and Scite at the same time, which is the only honest way to compare. Free tiers lie.

Descript earned its subscription by being the thing I reach for when I need audio/video. It edits the transcript and the waveform moves with it, no razor tool needed.

Scite earned its keep on research. It tells you if a study is backed up or quietly disputed, and on that work Descript would've been the wrong call.

The overlap is smaller than the comparison pages suggest. Where they touch, Descript is quicker to something usable and Scite is stronger on the research half that I actually care about.

Verdict: keep Descript as the audio/video default and pull in Scite only for the research work it clearly owns. Two subscriptions only make sense if you do both jobs every week. Turns out the 'best' one is the one I actually opened the next day. That was the only real test.
