The honest comparison
I'm a freelancer who bills by the hour, so a tool that saves me ten minutes is worth more than one that's theoretically smarter. I ran Gemini and Bing Copilot on the same real job: turning a client's messy Google Doc into a clean brief.
Copilot fumbled because it doesn't sit inside my Drive the way Gemini does. Gemini opened the doc, understood the structure, and drafted from the actual content. Copilot wanted me to paste everything in, which is fine until the doc is forty pages.
On raw chat, they're closer than the marketing admits. Both will state a wrong fact with total confidence, and both need a human checkpoint. Neither is a researcher you can trust unattended.
My take: Copilot if you're already in Edge and want a faster search. Gemini if your life is in Google Workspace and you're tired of copy-paste. For me the Workspace tie-in decided it, not the model quality.
