AI Tool Comparison
I ran my drafts through Grammarly and Gemini. Different fixes.
Grammarly tightened sentences. Gemini rewrote them. I now use both and resent neither.

The honest comparison
Grammarly is a careful editor with no opinions about your argument. It catches the passive voice, the repeated word, the comma splice, and leaves your point alone.
Gemini, given the same paragraph, often wants to restructure the whole thing and inject phrasing I did not write. Sometimes that is exactly what a tired draft needs. Sometimes it buries the one good line.
My routine: Grammarly first for hygiene, then Gemini only when the structure itself is weak and I am too close to see it.
Verdict: polish -> Grammarly. rebuild -> Gemini. Using Gemini as a proofreader wastes its strengths.
