Ideogram vs Canva: The Text-on-Image War Nobody Talks About

Canva's AI fakes text. Ideogram actually sets it. For quote cards and memes, that one difference ends the debate.

The honest comparison

Most 'design AI' quietly fails at the one thing marketing needs: putting readable words on a picture. Canva's text tool is great when you type it yourself, but its AI image generator still mangles words inside the image. Ideogram doesn't.

I tested both on a quote card. Canva's AI gave me a beautiful background with 'Th*nk B*g' baked in. Ideogram spelled the whole sentence correctly and let me tweak it. For anything customer-facing with words, that's the entire ballgame.

Canva still wins on everything around the image: templates, resizing for every platform, a library of real assets. Ideogram is narrower. It makes images with text and gets out of the way.

Use Canva for the full design system. Use Ideogram when the deliverable is 'a picture with words on it that a human can read.' Pretending Canva does the second thing will cost you a Photoshop session every time.
