AI Tool Comparison
Cursor Edits My Code. Replit Ships It to a URL. I Keep Both Open.
Cursor is the editor brain. Replit is the environment that runs. For a quick prototype, the line between them is the whole game.

Replit AI
AI-powered coding inside your browser
Replit AI helps developers write, debug, and deploy code directly in the browser with AI-assisted workflows.
Cursor
AI-first code editor for developers
Cursor is an AI-powered code editor designed to help developers write, refactor, and understand code faster with built-in AI assistance.
The honest comparison
Replit's Agent builds a project from a sentence and hands you a live URL you can send a friend. That end-to-end loop is its superpower: no local setup, no 'works on my machine.' I've shipped weekend ideas from a phone this way.
Cursor is where I go when the code already exists and needs surgery. Its repo awareness and inline apply make large refactors bearable, and it doesn't try to also be a deployment target. The focus shows in the quality of the edits.
The crossover pain: Replit's agent is great at starting and rough at finishing a nuanced feature; Cursor is great at finishing and assumes you have a repo to finish in. For a from-scratch demo I start in Replit, then if it gets serious I clone to Cursor.
Verdict: Replit to stand something up, Cursor to make it good. If your project never leaves 'demo I sent three people,' Replit alone is fine. If it becomes real, the Cursor bill shows up.
