AI summary tools miss the point of reading
A summary saves time and costs comprehension. I use them, but only after I decide what I am reading for.
Summarizers are Magice when I need the gist of a long report I will never cite. They are a trap when I am trying to understand something, because understanding lives in the parts a summary throws away.
The skipped sections are usually where the doubt, the caveat, and the interesting exception hide. A clean summary is a cleaned-up version of a messy truth, and sometimes the mess is the point.
My rule: summarize to decide whether to read, not to replace reading. If the topic matters, I read the source and let the summary be a map, not a substitute.
Tools that promise to read for you are selling a small lie. They read at you, not with you.
