Der ehrliche Vergleich

I used Bing's Copilot and Claude side by side for a week of real research, not demo prompts. The thing everyone mentions first is that Bing sees the live web and Claude mostly doesn't. True, but it misses the part that bit me: Bing forgets the thread the second you change subject, while Claude holds the reasoning even on stale data.

Concrete example. I asked both to track a specific product recall across three news sites. Bing fetched fresher pages but its summary drifted when I pressed 'which source said the part is discontinued.' Claude, working from links I pasted, kept the chain of who-claimed-what straight and admitted when a source was silent. For a recall, that honesty matters more than freshness.

Where Bing wins is the obvious one: prices, stock, today's weather, anything with a timestamp. Claude wins when the task is 'help me think,' not 'tell me the fact.' I stopped treating them as rivals and started using Bing as a browser with opinions and Claude as the colleague who reads what I hand him.

The trap is expecting one to do the other's job. Bing's answers read confident even when the cited page didn't say that; Claude's answers read careful even when he's guessing from memory. I now paste Bing's findings into Claude and let him flag the gap. That two-step habit caught two wrong claims Bing served me as fact.

Verdict: if your work is 'what is true right now,' Bing Copilot is faster. If it's 'help me reason about what I found,' Claude is steadier. Most weeks I need both, and the people who swear by only one are usually doing only one kind of task.
