Der ehrliche Vergleich
I gave both the same brief: a tiny internal tool that reads a CSV of client invoices and spits out a weekly summary page. Claude got a chat window, Replit got its agent and a browser preview. I wanted to know which one I'd still be paying for in three months.
Claude was better at the thinking. When I asked why my date parsing broke on European formats, it explained the timezone mess and handed me a fix I could paste anywhere. That knowledge is portable — it made me better at my own codebase.
Replit skipped the philosophy and just shipped. It scaffolded the app, wired up a database I didn't ask for, and gave me a live URL before I finished my coffee. When something broke, it fixed it inside its own environment, which is great until the fix contradicts something I changed manually an hour earlier.
The honest split: Claude for the parts of coding I want to understand, Replit for the parts I want done by Friday. My invoice tool runs on Replit. The gnarly parsing logic in it was written by Claude. Paying for both felt redundant for exactly one week, and then it didn't.
