I used Claude for a long stretch, then moved to Runway because everyone said I should. The switch taught me what I'd taken for granted.

Runway did the thing I switched for: it offers more models and more control than almost any rival. For about a week I felt clever.

Then I missed what Claude did quietly: it handles huge context and writes with a careful, calm tone. Runway asks for a real learning curve and a real price, and that gap showed up daily, not once.

The real difference wasn't features on a page. It was which tool got out of my way. Claude did; Runway made me think about it more than I wanted.

I went back to Claude and kept Runway for the rare video task where it's clearly better. Both earned a spot; only one earned the default. Neither tool owed me anything. One just gave me an hour back, and that's the only metric I care about.
