Midjourney for the Thumbnail, Descript for the Edit. I Stopped Forcing One to Do the Other.

Midjourney makes the thumbnail that gets the click. Descript edits the recording that keeps it. I used to think I should standardize on one 'creative tool' and spent a week trying to make Descript's visuals do what Midjourney does, then trying to make Midjourney's output editable like audio. Both attempts were dumb.

Midjourney's job ends at a PNG. It has no timeline, no transcript, no way to cut a sentence. Descript's job is the opposite: it's a word processor for your recording, where deleting a word deletes the waveform. Asking one to be the other is like asking a camera to edit itself.

The workflow that finally stuck: generate three thumbnail options in Midjourney, pick one, and edit the video in Descript where the real time goes. The thumbnail takes ten minutes. The edit takes an hour. Comparing the tools ignores that one is a still and the other is a movie.

Verdict for a solo creator: you need both the frame and the cut. Drop Midjourney if you source art elsewhere. Drop Descript if you never record. But don't frame it as a duel. They're a poster and a scalpel.
