Midjourney Makes Pictures. Pictory Makes Videos. I Needed Both and Paid for the Wrong One First.

I came to Midjourney to make a hero image for a landing page and to Pictory to turn a blog post into a 60-second clip. Pretending they compete is the mistake most comparison pages make: they handle different halves of the same workflow.

Midjourney wins the moment you need one striking frame and don't care about text, faces, or brand consistency. Pictory wins when you already have a script or article and want motion without shooting anything. Where Midjourney is a paintbrush, Pictory is a blender.

The catch is handoff. Midjourney gives you a PNG that Pictory can't caption or animate well, and Pictory's stock-footage engine looks generic next to a custom Midjourney still. I ended up using Midjourney for the thumbnail and Pictory for the B-roll, then stitching them in a third tool.

Verdict: if you can only afford one, pick by output. Need images, Midjourney. Need a finished video from text, Pictory. Trying to make Midjourney 'do video' or Pictory 'do art' will cost more time than the subscription saves.
