My content process had a hole in the middle: research was manual, drafting was semi-automated, and the two never talked. So I tested the obvious pairing — Writesonic for the drafts, Perplexity for the research — and then each tool alone, to see which single subscription could plausibly replace the pair.

Writesonic drafts fast and formats for SEO out of the box. Its weakness appeared in the first fact-check pass: writing confidently about a product update from eight months ago, inventing a pricing tier, the usual. As a first-draft machine it's worth the money. As a source of truth, it isn't one and doesn't pretend to be.

Perplexity's drafts, when I made it write, were more accurate and more boring — correct facts wrapped in encyclopedic prose that no editor would print without a rewrite. Its real role became obvious in week two: it's the research intake. Every brief now starts with a Perplexity synthesis with sources, and the fact-check pass shrank from hours to minutes.

Running Writesonic alone produced fast, wrong content — the worst quadrant. Running Perplexity alone produced slow, correct content nobody published on schedule. The pair is the answer, with the brief handed from research to drafting in that order. If you only fund one, decide whether your bottleneck is trust or throughput. Mine was trust, so Perplexity got the renewal.
