Building a Second Brain in Notion AI Without Drowning in It

Most 'second brain' setups collapse under their own taxonomy. Notion AI helps only if you capture loosely and structure late.

The failure mode is building the perfect folder tree before you have anything in it. I start with one inbox page and dump everything: notes, links, half-thoughts. Notion AI's job is to surface, not to file, so the structure can wait.

Once a week I ask Notion AI to 'summarize this week's inbox into themes' and it clusters things I'd forgotten were related. That's the second-brain moment: not storage, but unexpected connection. I then make a page per theme and let the rest stay loose.

The discipline that keeps it alive is the daily five-minute capture. If it takes longer than writing the thought, the system dies. Notion AI's quick 'expand this note into a paragraph' turns a fragment into something future-me can use without context.

Don't ask it to be your strategist. It's a very fast clerk with your files in context. Treat it as one and the brain stays useful instead of becoming a museum you're afraid to open.
