I Write the Surfer Brief Before the Draft Now, Not After

Running Surfer after writing means rewriting. Running it first means the draft lands close the first time.

My old habit was write, then run Surfer, then watch it flag half my sections as off-topic, then rewrite. The second pass ate the time the first should have saved. So I flipped it: generate the Surfer brief, then write to it.

The brief tells me the terms real top posts use and the questions they answer. Writing with that open means my draft already covers the gaps instead of learning about them after. The edit becomes a trim, not a rebuild.

It also stops me over-optimizing. Surfer will push keyword density until the prose hums one word; with the brief in front of me as a guide, not a scoreboard, I hit the structure and keep my voice. The number is a hint, not a quota.

The posts I brief-first rank with less rework and read better, because I wasn't retrofitting keywords into finished sentences. Plan the page, then write it, same as any outline, just with search data in the outline.
