AI meeting tools made me lazier - and that might be fine
I stopped taking notes and started skimming summaries. My meetings did not suffer. My attention maybe did.
Since a bot started joining my calls, I stopped writing anything down. The summary lands in the chat, and I trust it. Mostly it is right, which is exactly the problem.
I am more present in the moment and less engaged with the content, because I outsourced the capture. When the summary misses a nuance, I miss it too, and I rarely go back to the recording.
For routine meetings this is a fair trade. For the few that decide things, I still take my own notes, because the one missed detail in a summary can be the one that mattered.
Laziness is fine when the tool is reliable and the stakes are low. The skill is knowing which meetings are not low stakes.
