I Deleted My AI Meeting Notetaker After It Attributed the Wrong Owner

The summary was clean and the action item pointed at the wrong person. One wrong assignment in a shared thread is all it took.

My notetaker was great at catching decisions and awful at catching who made them. In a call where two people talked over each other, it assigned a follow-up to me that the client had actually owned. I only caught it because the client replied 'that's yours, not mine.'

That's the failure mode of transcription tools: they hear words, not responsibility. Diarization guesses, and when it guesses wrong on a shared action item, the mistake travels in a summary everyone reads. One wrong owner is enough to erode trust in the whole system.

I didn't quit the tool, I changed the rule. I read the action items before forwarding, fix the owner, delete the ones nobody said. Ten seconds that the auto-summary can't do for me because it can't know who meant what.

The notetaker stays, but as a draft. Treating its output as a verdict was the mistake; treating it as a first pass I'm still accountable for is the fix. An AI that assigns work needs a human who agrees.
