Shipping 100 AI Articles Taught Me More About Writing Than Any Course

After a hundred pieces, the lesson wasn't about AI. It was about how little of 'good writing' is the words themselves.

I set out to publish a hundred AI-tool articles, expecting to learn prompt tricks. The real lesson was about discipline: consistency beats inspiration, and the model only amplifies the structure you give it.

The first twenty were generic. Same shape, same safe tone, same forgettable verdicts. They read like they were written by the same committee, because they were, effectively, the same prompt run twenty times.

Things improved when I started briefing each piece like a human editor: a specific persona, a real task, a banned-word list, and a verdict that picked a side. The model didn't get smarter; my instructions got sharper, and the output followed.

The biggest surprise was how much the thinking had to happen before the prompt. By the time I wrote 'compare these two tools on a real task,' I'd already done the hard part. The AI was a fast typist for a decision I'd made.

If you want better AI writing, stop blaming the model and start directing it. A hundred articles in, I'm convinced the words were never the bottleneck. The direction was.
