Why Your Prompt Library Is Dead Weight
I kept a folder of 'perfect' prompts. I opened it once a quarter and used none of them.
The prompts were written for tasks I no longer had. Worse, they encoded assumptions about models that had been updated twice since. A prompt tuned for last year's model is a small anchor.
What actually helps is a one-line description of the job and the shape of the output I want. I rebuild the prompt in the moment; it takes thirty seconds and fits today's model.
A library implies reuse. Most of my real prompts are one-offs for a specific file. Hoarding them is tidy but useless.
Keep principles, not paragraphs. The specifics rot faster than you think.
