I expected Notion AI and ChatGPT to overlap and one to win. They didn't, because Notion AI works on the document in front of me and ChatGPT works on the idea in my head. Summarize this page? Notion, one keystroke, no copy-paste. Brainstorm the page I haven't written? ChatGPT, in a tab.
The friction Notion AI removes is context-switching. It already sees my meeting notes, so 'draft follow-ups from this' is instant and accurate. ChatGPT would need me to paste them, and pasting is where details leak. For anything in-the-notebook, Notion is simply closer.
ChatGPT wins the open-ended stuff: 'help me decide between these two approaches' with no document yet. Notion AI can do it but feels like asking your filing cabinet for advice. The model behind both is similar; the placement decides the win.
Where I lost time was forcing ChatGPT to edit a long Notion doc by pasting chunks back and forth. Once I let Notion AI handle in-doc polish and ChatGPT handle pre-writing, the toggling stopped. They're teammates separated by where the text lives.
