Stop putting Perplexity and Otter in the same sentence.

I gave Perplexity and Otter the same job neither was built exclusively for. Automation is how I keep up, and these two automate different things.

Perplexity is an answer engine that cites every claim. What sold me is that it tells you where each fact came from. The part that annoys me is that it leans on a small set of sites more than it should.

Otter is live transcription that shows up as you talk. Its edge is that it gives real-time captions at a price that doesn't hurt. The downside is just as real: it lets speaker labels drift in a crowded meeting room.

Side by side, the same prompt through both, Perplexity got to something usable faster and Otter did the better job on the part that needed meeting-level care. Neither embarrassed itself, which is rare.

Verdict: if your work leans toward search, keep Perplexity. If it's meeting you actually do all day, Otter is the one to open first. I kept the one that removed a step I actually repeat. The other got a bookmark, not a subscription.
