I ran a job search out of Notion for a month. Teal asked me one question that changed it

A workspace can track applications. It can't tell you why your resume keeps losing. A month of parallel-running both settled where each belongs.

Le comparatif honnête

For a month I tracked my job search in Notion — a board with columns, application dates, follow-ups, notes from each interview. It was tidy and useless in equal measure. Tidy because Notion; useless because knowing I'd applied to forty places told me nothing about why I'd heard back from three.

Teal asked one question Notion never did: what does each posting actually ask for? It compares your resume against a specific job, shows the missing keywords, and scores the match. My first wake-up call: the title I wanted used 'product operations' and my resume said 'process owner' in every single role. Not a skills gap. A vocabulary gap.

I retargeted with Teal's keyword matching, and the callback rate moved within two weeks. That's the part a workspace structurally can't do — Notion sees my notes, not the gap between my resume and the posting. Its AI can rewrite my summary, but rewriting toward what? It doesn't know what the job wants.

What I kept in Notion anyway: interview logs, the emotional weather of the search, company research pasted from everywhere. That's personal knowledge, and Notion is genuinely good at it. Teal has some tracking built in, and it's fine, but it's not a thinking space.

The verdict: Teal for the part of the search that's a conversion problem — resume to interview. Notion for the part that's a sanity problem — keeping yourself organized and non-desperate. If you can only tolerate one tool during a search, make it the one that tells you why you're losing, not the one that files the losses neatly.
