My First YouTube Voiceover Without a Microphone

I wanted to narrate a video but my mic picked up the fridge, the fan, and a neighbor's dog. ElevenLabs let me skip the hardware problem entirely by generating a clean voice from text.
Step one: write the script as you'd speak it, short sentences, natural pauses marked with commas. The model reads punctuation, so a wall of text becomes a monotone march. Punctuate like you talk.
Step two: pick a voice that isn't annoying at 1.5x speed, because most people watch sped up. I tested three and chose the one that didn't grate on the third listen. That listen test saved the project.
The mistake I made was over-perfecting. A slightly human cadence beats a flawless robot. I let one small breath remain and it sounded more real than the sterile first take.
Is it 'me'? No. But it's clear, consistent, and done, and for a channel that needed ten videos, done beat authentic every time. Disclose it's AI if your audience cares, and move on.
