The Zapier Loop That Finally Tamed My Inbox

Not zero-inbox. A loop that decides what is real so I only touch email twice a day.

Zero-inbox is a lie they sell to people who enjoy folding laundry. I wanted something weaker and more honest: a loop that filters the noise so the only emails I see are the ones that need me.

The zap watches new mail and runs a simple rule set. Anything from a noreply or a list goes to a Read Later label and skips my priority view. Anything with 'invoice' or 'action required' or a client's name gets a star and a Slack ping. Everything else waits.

The second half is the part people miss. A daily digest zap bundles the Read Later stuff into one summary at 6pm, so I can scan thirty newsletters in ninety seconds instead of all day. Most of it I delete without opening, which is the correct outcome.

I broke it once by over-filtering. A real client email had 'update' in the subject and matched a rule that sent updates to Read Later. I missed it for a day. The fix was a whitelist: specific addresses always win, rules never override a person I actually work with.

It didn't empty my inbox. It emptied my anxiety, which was the actual problem. I touch email twice a day now and the rest of the time it's just a folder somewhere.
