Turning a Stack of Notes Into a Study Guide With ChatGPT

Raw notes are where learning goes to die. A specific prompt turns them into questions you'd actually review.

I'd sit on lecture notes for weeks because turning them into something learnable felt like a second job. Now I paste the raw notes into ChatGPT and ask for a study guide built as questions, not a summary.

The prompt that works: 'Turn these notes into 15 quiz questions with short answers, group them by theme, and flag the three concepts I'd most likely forget.' The grouping is the part I couldn't do by hand without rereading everything.

I then have it generate one practice test in the style of the real exam, and I take it before I think I'm ready. The model's questions expose the gaps my skimming missed, which is the whole point of studying.

One rule: I never trust a fact the model states without checking it against my source notes. It occasionally smooths over something the professor stressed, and that's exactly the line I can't afford to lose.
