Scite Caught Me Citing a Paper That Disagreed

I found a paper that said exactly what I wanted and dropped it in. Scite showed it had been contradicted by three later studies.

I found a paper that said exactly what I wanted and dropped it into my draft. Scite showed it had been contradicted by three later studies, and that my 'support' was actually a fight.

Scite's core feature is stance, not just existence. It tells you whether papers support or push back against the one you're citing. That context is gold for any lit review and almost nowhere else has it.

I now run every key citation through Scite before it goes in. The five minutes saves the classic error of building an argument on a study that the field moved past.

It's not a replacement for reading, it's a guardrail. The contradicting papers still need my judgment on whether they're right. But knowing they exist changes what I claim.

If you write with sources, check stance, not just presence. A citation that disagrees with you is worse than no citation, and only a tool like Scite shows it in time.
