Catch a Broken Zap Before Your Client Emails You
Zaps fail silently until someone notices the missing email. A watchdog Zap catches the failure for you.
A Zap that moves client data failed for a week and I found out from the client, not the tool. Zapier's history showed the errors; nobody was looking. The fix was a second Zap that watches the first one's failures and pings me the moment a step errors, with the run link.
Setup is small: use Zapier's built-in error notification or a filter on the task history, and route it to a dedicated Slack channel I actually monitor. Now a broken connection shows up in minutes, not in a polite client email asking where their file went.
The deeper habit is reviewing the history weekly, not just trusting the green dot. The green dot means it ran; it doesn't mean it did the right thing. A Zap that runs but maps a field wrong fails quietly and looks healthy.
If a Zap touches a client deliverable, wrap it with a failure alert. The cost is one extra automation. The alternative is the phone call you don't want to take.
