I Dubbed a Short Video in a Voice Clone and Almost Got Away With It
The clone was convincing. The mouth shape wasn't. Here's the fix that saved the take.
I cloned a voice and dubbed a 40-second clip. The audio was close enough that two colleagues didn't notice on headphones. Then I watched the lips.
The mismatch between the new voice and the original mouth movement gave it away on screen. I re-shot the segment to match the new read, and the illusion held.
Lesson: audio clones fool ears, not eyes. For spoken video, the performance and the visuals have to agree, or the brain flags it.
Use ElevenLabs for voiceover and narration. For on-camera lines, re-record the take so the face matches the sound.
