Drawing a Quick Literature Map With Scite Before You Write

Before a literature review, Scite shows you where the field agrees and where it fights. That map is the outline you'd otherwise invent.

When I start a review, I drop the five foundational papers into Scite and read the supporting-versus-contradicting counts per claim. A finding with ten supports and one contradict is a settled point; one with a split is a debate I should name, not smooth over.

The map is the value, not the individual summaries. Scite shows the structure of disagreement, and that structure is usually the real story. My introduction writes itself once I see which claim the field is still fighting about.

It also catches papers I'd have cited that later work walked back. Citing a retracted-support study is the fastest way to lose a reviewer's trust, and Scite surfaces the contradiction before I embed the claim.

Use it as the first pass, not the only one. Scite points to the load-bearing citations; you still read the key papers. But going in with the map beats going in blind and rediscovering the debate on page forty.
