Why I Kept the Dumb Tool Instead of the Smart One
The flashy new app lost to the boring one I already had. The reason was reliability, not features.
A slick new note tool promised AI summaries and auto-linking. It was fun for a week, then it mis-filed a note I needed and I couldn't find it for an hour.
The old tool did one thing: store text and search it. It never surprised me, which turned out to be the feature I valued most.
Smart tools fail in interesting ways that cost you time. Dumb tools fail rarely, and when they do, you know why.
Keep the smart tool for exploration, the dumb one for the records you can't afford to lose.
