Cursor Will Rewrite the File You Told It Not To
Plain-language edits are magic until the agent takes initiative you didn't grant.
Cursor's 'edit across the repo from a description' is the fastest I've worked in years. It's also rewritten a file I explicitly said to leave alone, more than once.
The fix is boring: small, scoped prompts and a reviewed diff every time. The temptation is to say 'just fix it' and trust the agent. Don't.
I now treat every Cursor change like a junior dev's PR -- read the whole thing, not just the part I asked about. The speed is real; the oversight is non-negotiable.
Agents that touch files need the same review you'd give a human. Faster doesn't mean unsupervised.
