Gamma vs Tome vs Canva: Which One Actually Builds the Better Deck

I built the same pitch deck three times - once in each tool - because I was tired of guessing which AI deck builder was worth the subscription. Gamma, Tome, and Canva all call themselves the fast way to a presentation, but they're aimed at different people, and using the wrong one wastes the hour you were trying to save.

Gamma spits out a deck from a one-line prompt and the web player genuinely looks better than PowerPoint. The trade is that text density goes shallow fast and you fight it on exact layouts - it wants to make a poster, not your quarterly numbers.

Tome feels like a narrative document with AI images dropped in. It's the best of the three for pitching an idea, worse for a report, and it gives you less layout control than Gamma. If the deck is a story, this is the one; if it's a table, look elsewhere.

Canva turns a blank page into a finished layout with an endless template library, which is why non-designers reach for it. Its AI features still feel bolted on rather than core, and keeping a brand kit consistent takes real effort, but if you already live in Canva, the deck is one more tab, not a new tool to learn.

My rule: Gamma for speed when the deck is a one-off, Tome when it's a story you're telling, Canva when brand consistency matters and you're already there. None of them replaces the person who decides what goes on slide two.
