I Let Haiku 5.5 Handle My Inbox Triage

A tiny model sorted my email by 'needs me' versus 'can wait.' It got the categories right and never once wrote a reply, which is exactly why I trusted it.

I pointed Haiku 5.5 at my inbox with one job: label each message as 'reply today,' 'this week,' or 'ignore.' No drafting, no sending, just sorting. A $0.10 model is cheap enough that I run it on everything, and the labels were shockingly sane.

The restraint is the point. I didn't let it answer, because an auto-reply is where trust goes to die. Sorting is reversible and cheap to verify; acting is neither. Keeping the model on the read side removed my fear of a bad automated send.

It caught the real patterns: the invoice that looked like spam, the 'quick question' that was actually a deadline. Those are the emails I'd have missed while clearing the obvious stuff first.

If you try this, start with labeling, not writing. The small model earns the right to sort before it ever earns the right to speak for you, and most inboxes don't need it to do more than that.
