I Let AI Summarize a Year of Notes and Hated the Result

I dumped a year of notes into a summarizer expecting clarity and got a smooth, confident paragraph that was true to nothing in particular. It was the literary equivalent of a handshake, polite, empty, and impossible to argue with.

The model averaged my year into a tone, and in doing so erased the arguments, the doubts, and the specific mess that was actually useful. A summary that offends no one teaches no one.

What worked instead was asking for the contradictions. Where did I change my mind pulled out the real thread; what did I keep avoiding was uncomfortable and correct. The flat summary hid exactly those.

I've come to think of AI summaries as a first pass, not a verdict. They tell you what you said. They can't tell you what you meant, and the gap between those two is the only part worth reading.

Let it summarize, then argue with the summary. The disagreement is where your actual year shows up, and a tool that only agrees with you is a mirror, not a memory.
