De eerlijke vergelijking
Ideogram and Flux both built their reputation on the thing image generators were historically terrible at: obeying the prompt. Ideogram took the typography corner, Flux took general instruction following, and I ran the same briefs through both for a month of real design work, posters, product mockups, and social assets, to see where each earns its subscription.
Ideogram's typography remains the headline. My poster briefs came back with readable, reasonably kerned text on the first or second generation, something that still breaks most rivals, and the magic fill and style tools made iterating on layouts fast. For social graphics, event posters, and any asset where words are the design, it went from novelty to daily driver. The ceiling is artistic range: for painterly, cinematic, or deeply stylized work, it plateaus below the leaders.
Flux is the obedience champion across everything else. Prompt adherence so literal that it occasionally rendered mistakes I regretted describing, photorealistic product shots with consistent lighting, and open weights that let our team fine-tune on our own product photos, which is the feature that ended the comparison for our e-commerce work. Its text handling improved but still fumbles small type, and it gives you a gun with no safety: precise prompts, precise results, including precise mistakes.
The poster showdown was the clearest single test: same headline, same layout brief. Ideogram delivered a usable poster in three generations. Flux delivered a beautiful image with text that was almost right, and almost is failure when the client needs to read the date. The product-shot showdown inverted it: Flux, fine-tuned, produced the twenty consistent variants our catalog needed, and Ideogram could not hold character across the set.
Verdict: if your images contain words, posters, covers, ads, memes, Ideogram is the tool and it is not close. If your images must obey, match, and reproduce, product photography, brand-consistent sets, fine-tuned styles, Flux. Designers doing real client work will hold both licenses this year, because words-in-images and obedience-in-everything are two different jobs that AI image generation finally does well.
