Vergelijking van AI-tools
Copilot lives inside my editor. Replit ships from the browser. I use both, just not for the same thing.
One weekend I built a small internal tool. Copilot finished my sentences; Replit stood up the whole app and a URL. Here is the split that actually worked.

De eerlijke vergelijking
I shipped a small internal tool last month and forced myself to use each tool for what it is, not what the marketing claims. The result was not a fight between two copilots. It was a pipeline: one writes the code, the other puts it somewhere a person can click.
Copilot stayed open in VS Code the whole time. Replit ran in a tab. When I hit a wall on deploy config, I pasted the error into Replit's agent and it fixed the environment while I kept editing locally. They never got in each other's way because they sit at different steps.
GitHub Copilot (github.com/features/copilot)
Best for: code completion and chat inside your existing editor (VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim).
Key features: inline suggestions, Copilot Chat, agent mode for multi-file edits, CLI support, broad language coverage.
Free plan: a free tier for individuals with monthly limits.
Pricing: Pro starts around $10 a month; Business and Enterprise tiers add policy and audit controls.
Pros: keeps you in flow, fast on boilerplate, understands your open files.
Cons: you still architect the system, and agent mode is newer and occasionally wanders.
Replit AI (replit.com)
Best for: building and deploying an app from a prompt without setting up a local environment.
Key features: Replit Agent that scaffolds from natural language, instant preview, one-click deploy, hosted database, templates.
Free plan: a free tier with usage limits; always-on apps are not free.
Pricing: Core sits around $20 a month for more compute and agents.
Pros: zero setup, ships to a real URL, approachable for people who do not code daily.
Cons: less control than a local repo, cost climbs with usage, large apps get sluggish.
My verdict: reach for Copilot if you already write code and want to move faster. Reach for Replit if you want a running app and have no environment to babysit. Buying both is not waste; buying only one and expecting it to do the other's job is.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: Do I need to know how to code to use Replit Agent?
A: Less than you think, but you still review the result. It builds the app; you decide if it is right.
Q: Can Copilot deploy my app?
A: It helps write deploy config, but the deploy itself lives in your CI or host, not in the editor.
Q: Is the free Copilot tier enough for hobby work?
A: For occasional use, often yes. Daily building hits the limit fast and a paid plan pays for itself.
