Midjourney lives in the part of my week where I need an image that doesn't exist yet. Otter lives in the part where I need a record of what was said. I can't think of a task where I'd weigh one against the other, which is the tell that they aren't rivals.
The only overlap is a design critique meeting: Otter transcripts the conversation, and later I might generate a concept in Midjourney based on it. But that's a two-tool pipeline, not a choice. Using Otter to 'make images' or Midjourney to 'take notes' is nonsense.
I pay for both because they occupy different line items in the same budget, and neither has crept into the other's lane in a year of use. That stability is rare and worth noting.
Verdict: Midjourney for making, Otter for keeping. Compare them only if you've never used both for what they're for; otherwise the question dissolves.
